Bobbie Houston has been a pastor at Hillsong since 1983 and is as well known to congregations there as her husband.
But she was made redundant after Mr Houston stepped down as the senior pastor last month.
Mr Houston posted a screenshot on Instagram of a text message he said was sent to his wife by an unidentified church leader.
“Dear Bobbie, I wanted to text to let you know I will be sending an email shortly regarding your employment,” the text read.
“Please let me know if you would like to talk about it or if you have questions.”
Mrs Houston replied: “I don’t even have words to express how cold and callous this has all become.”
Mr Houston captioned the screenshot with his own outrage.
“After 39 years of exemplary service and extraordinary faithfulness and fruitfulness, this is the communication Bobbie received from the Hillsong Church board as she is made redundant (effective immediately) through no choice of her own,” he wrote.
“She has relentlessly served God and served people as she stood side by side with me for four decades leading Hillsong Church, faithful in the good times and the tough times alike.
“And we are supposed to act like this is all ok. It’s not! Our beautiful church is losing its soul.”
He has also been charged with allegedly concealing his father’s sexual abuse of a child. He denies the allegations.
Mrs Houston has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
Hillsong is a Pentecostal church based in Sydney’s Hills District, with an estimated 43,000 congregants in Australia.
The church has an estimated 150,000 members globally, with congregations in the US, UK, Ukraine, Russia, Sweden and Israel.
