Child dies after home in Brisbane catches fire

A six-year-old boy has died after a house in Brisbane caught fire in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to the Clayfield property, in the city’s north-east, just before 4am and found it well ablaze.

9News understands the boy’s seventh birthday was just two weeks away.

A mother, father and child managed to evacuate the house.

It is believed the fire started at the rear of the property near the boy’s bedroom.

“The crews were met by a lot of heat and smoke,” said one of the emergency workers on the scene.

“It was very difficult to make entry through the front door. Eventually they made entry through there. They made the way down the hallway to the back of the house where the fire believed to have started. Then from there they have worked their way back extinguishing the fire.”

The cause of the fire is not known.
