Elderly man dies after home in Sydney’s south-west catches fire

An elderly man has died after a fire broke out in his south-west Sydney home overnight.

Emergency responders arrived at the Busby property about 8.30pm last night and found the home alight.

Nearby residents rushed onto the street in fear the blaze would spread.

Fire crews forced their way into the property and located an 84-year-old man dead inside the home.

He is yet to be formally identified.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze but the home was significantly damaged by flames.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
