Man dead, woman critical in Easter Monday highway crash near Koumala, central Queensland
A man is believed to have died and several other people are injured following a two vehicle crash on a Queensland highway this morning.
Paramedics, including critical care and a rescue helicopter, were called to a crash on the Bruce Highway near Koumala, south of Mackay around 10.25 am.
Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed a car and motorbike collided near the highway’s McNeil Road intersection.
“Paramedics, including critical care and a rescue helicopter are responding to a serious vehicle and motorcycle crash,” a spokesperson for the service said.
“Seven people were assessed.”
The man on the motorbike, found in a critical condition is believed to have died.
A woman in the other vehicle has been airlifted to Townsville University Hospital in a critical condition.
Five others, including two children, have been assessed by paramedics and transported by road to Mackay Base Hospital.
All five of these patients are in a stable condition.

Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed a woman in her 30s was treated for shoulder and pelvic injuries.
The two children, a man in his 40s and a woman in her 60s were also transported as a precaution.
Northbound lanes of traffic closed since the incident have since reopened following heavy delays this morning.
