Man knocked out during heated exchange on busy Gold Coast street

A man has been knocked unconscious in a heated exchange after allegedly yelling at a driver on the Gold Coast.

Video footage captured the incident on Friday night, appearing to show a man verbally abusing a driver of a red Hyundai sedan while standing in the middle of busy Cavill Avenue.

Another man arrived and appeared to punch the 18-year-old in the back of the head, knocking him out.

He is then shown dragging the unconscious teen off the road, with the help of another man.

Police have charged the teenager, accusing him of threatening a woman and spitting at people moments before the altercation occurred.

He has been banned from Surfers Paradise and will appear in court next month.

A police spokesperson said there had been no complaint made in relation to an assault.

Police superintendent Rhys Wildman said more police will be on the ground in the city in a bid to stop escalating incidences of violence.

“There was a clearly visible policing presence to make sure it was quite clear there was a standard being set around behaviour,” he said.

In another recent incident, a group of men are seen punching a driver at a red light on the Gold Coast highway.
