Man dies after slipping into ‘fast-moving’ floodwater in state’s outback

A Queensland man has died after slipping into “fast-moving” flood water in the state’s outback.

Police confirmed the fatality to 9News, saying they received reports the man had slipped and fallen at the Lloyd Jones Weir in Barcaldine at around 6.30pm last night.

The did not identify the man for privacy reasons.

“A search was conducted and the man’s body was later located,” a spokesperson said.

“A report will be prepared for the Coroner.”

The fatality comes after Queensland’s centre received some of its heaviest rainfall in decades.

Longreach, 108 kilometres from Barcaldine, was briefly surrounded by water after it received falls between 100 to 200 mm.
