Police investigate ‘suspicious’ house fire in Greenacres

Two residents of a home in Adelaide have managed to escape from a blazing house fire police suspect may have been deliberately lit.

Firefighters and police were called to the Greenacres property yesterday following reports nearby residents could see flames coming from the front windows of the home.

Inside, banging could be heard from the 66-year-old woman and her 37-year-old son living at the property.

Huge flames billowed from the two properties. (Nine)

Security mesh and barred doors temporarily blocked their escape as flames then engulfed the garage and roof of the property next door.

South Australian police said fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze and the two residents were taken to hospital suffering minor burns.

Tragically several of their pets perished in the fire.

Police say they believe the fire may have been deliberately lit. (Nine)

“Fire cause investigators are attending the scene however police believe that the fire was deliberately lit,” South Australia Police said.

“Anyone with information or saw any suspicious activity is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
