Madeleine McCann missing: Timeline of 15-year mystery

Amid continued sightings and leads that go nowhere, there are no major developments in the case for years.

In 2011, the UK government launches Operation Grange, a London Metropolitan Police strike force which will review the evidence and try and find answers to the world’s biggest cold case.

More than 10 years on, Operation Grange is still running, albeit on a skeleton staff. The operation has cost British taxpayers more than $23 million, prompting criticism from some quarters about the amount of money spent.

Despite the massive resources and financial spend, Operation Grange have charged no one and Madeleine remains missing.
