COVID-19 deaths and infections surge across NSW and Victoria; 31 people have died in Victoria and NSW overnight

A further 31 people have died in Victoria and NSW overnight, as the two states clock more than 30,000 new COVID-19 cases.
Of the deaths, 21 were in NSW and 14 were in Victoria.
The new figures mean 3012 Victorians have now died since the onset of the pandemic, while in NSW 2867 lives have been lost.
Cases are also marching up in the state, with Victoria recording 11,596 new infections.
NSW is mirroring the trend with 18,529 new coronavirus recorded overnight. This is up from 11,939 yesterday.
Hospitalisations are also increasing in the two states.
