Detectives now believe that the woman was given a lift from the Brunswick area and dropped near the corner of Lygon and Pigdon Streets in Carlton North around 5.40am that morning.

She was subsequently arrested after she boarded the tram.

The vehicle which dropped her off was a dark coloured ute with tool boxes on the rear and a snorkel attached to the driver’s side.

Detectives are appealing for information to identify the vehicle and its driver or for the driver of that vehicle to contact police.

The two men and the woman are all believed to be known to each other.
