Queensland jockey to undergo surgery after one-punch attack

A Queensland jockey will undergo jaw surgery after he was coward punched inside a nightclub hours after winning a career-making race.
Ashley Butler won the prestigious Archer race at Rockhampton’s Callaghan Park on Saturday, but celebrations were cut short when the jockey was punched in the back of the head.
“From what I remember I walked into the toilet … I don’t really remember much after that,” Butler said.
“To win the Archer on Saturday was well beyond winning the Newmarket, so it was more to go out and celebrate and have a drink.”
The jockey is now scheduled to have jaw surgery in Brisbane and will be unable to continue racing.
“Somebody else is going to have to win on them for me,” Butler said.
“I’ve got four fractures to the side of my jaw so that will be plated and screwed.
“Hopefully it all goes smooth and I can get back sooner rather than later.”
Police are investigating the incident.
