Australia breaking news today, live Federal Election updates and latest headlines May 12, 2022:

Another day, another bad-news poll for the Coalition.

A new survey published in The Australian has shown that if the election were held today, Labor would be on track to form majority government with 80 Lower House seats.

It follows a poll yesterday which showed Treasurer Josh Frydenberg was in danger of losing the blue-ribbon seat of Kooyong to an Independent.

But Nationals Senator Matt Canavan dismissed the dire outlook.

“This is very, very close,” he told Today.

“This election is going to be close. Your vote matters over the next 10 days.”

But 2GB host Chris Smith disagreed, saying it looked like the voter mood had turned.

“Because of the feeling out there that the baseball bats need to come out in some states against Scott Morrison, in WA, in Victoria in particular,” he said.

“I think there’s an overwhelming feeling for change, a feeling for, ‘We need to whack them and let them know we need a change’.”
