A horrific acid attack has left a South Australian man in hospital with serious burns after he put up an effort to try and fight off his alleged attacker.
Police cars and fire crews were called to a property at Andrews Farms in Adelaide’s northern suburbs just after 9pm on Tuesday, after the 55-year-old man was found covered in chemicals – a mixture of hydrochloric and petrol.
Police say the acid attack took place during a fight with another man in the front yard of the home on Leicester Grove.
Police say the man chased his alleged attacker down to the nearby road, Premier Close where authorities eventually caught up with the pair.
The man covered in chemicals was taken to Lyell McEwin Hospital to be treated for serious burns to his head, shoulder and arm.
The 62-year-old alleged attacker was also taken to hospital with head injuries.
He was also arrested and charged with aggravated assault causing harm.
Hazmat crews worked to clean up the chemicals left behind at the scene of the alleged acid attack.
Investigators are working to figure out a motive for the attack, but are assuring the public it wasn’t random.
